The current population as of 2008 is approximately 7765 folks. The city has a well balanced economic base with a healthy and diverse mix of retail and light industrial businesses.
The city’s location at the base of the santiam canyon, on Oregon Hwy 22, offers quick and easy access to the popular Detroit Lake and the Cascade mountain range to the east, as well as the state capitol and the Oregon Coast to the west. And there's lots of campgrounds and fishing throughout the canyon.
